Nine Dragons Carpet |
Asian Textiles From the Florence County Museum
Curator: Stephen Motte
One of the pieces in this show is the Nine Dragons Carpet. The piece was offered to the Florence Museum by the Carlebach Gallery of New York in 1954. Florence Museum Trustee Nick Zeigler seized the opportunity to acquire the rare and prestigious artifact for the museum's growing Asian Collection. The Carlebach Gallery was known for being a dealer of various antiquities and fine art. The gallery is most famous for hosting pop artist Roy Lichtenstein's first exhibition. The carpet has only been on exhibit two times during its ownership by the Florence Museum before coming to the Fine Arts Center. The most recent display was at the Uncommon Threads exhibition in spring 2010. Now, the amazing Nine Dragons Carpet will be on view at the Fine Arts Center.
